Inlays and onlays are used to repair substantial damage to the biting surfaces of molar and premolar teeth towards the back of the mouth. These custom-made restorations are a great option if the damage is too extensive to be repaired with a filling, but not significant enough to necessitate a full crown.

What differentiates an inlay from an onlay?

Inlays and onlays are very similar, with the difference between the two being defined by the areas they cover.

Inlays typically repair cavities that lie within the cusps of a tooth’s biting surface. Onlays, on the other hand, restore damage that extends over the top of the cusps.
